Clementine Lazar, MSW
Couples Therapy Fellow
She/Her
“Relationships are an almost absurdly ambitious undertaking. We ask them to comfort and excite us, to give us somewhere to belong without losing ourselves, and to provide refuge even as we and our partners change. We bring our histories and fears, our needs and desires, sex and money, families and bodies and laundry, into something that can be as transcendent as it is ordinary, and as painful as it is life-sustaining. Of course we get stuck. But when relationships work—even imperfectly—they can be one of the very best parts of being alive.”
Clementine comes to couples therapy after more than a decade of working at the intersection of sexuality, relationships, identity, and health. Before becoming a therapist, she spent years as a sexuality educator, talking with people about the things we’re often taught not to talk about: sex and desire, consent and boundaries, intimacy and belonging, and the complicated ways we try to connect with one another.
She works from a relational, attachment-based, and trauma-informed perspective, helping couples understand the patterns they create together, hear one another more clearly, and discover new ways to reach for and respond to each other. Her approach is warm, engaged, direct, and nonjudgmental, with a particular commitment to curiosity over shame.
Services Offered: As part of our commitment to the community, Clementine provides reduced-fee couples therapy for uninsured and low-income couples in Massachusetts and internationally who are seeking relationship therapy.
Ask me about: Intentional communities, cooperative economies, road trips, or why I always order the menu item I’ve never tried.
Ever since I was young, I’ve been: The person asking, “But why?”—curious about the assumptions we inherit and the possibilities we can imagine.
Favorite Quote: “For small creatures such as we, the vastness is bearable only through love.” Carl Sagan
Favorite Couples: Any couple willing to stay curious about each other and brave enough to discover what works for their relationship.
